Ceramics

Guten Abend my friends! Today marks the first day of Reading Week, which means NO MORE SCHOOL. For a total of nine days I am free. Granted, I have some drawing homework and 3D Fundamentals homework, but no going to school, no having to spend time with my classmates. Whom I do care about, but after a while anyone gets under a person's skin.
Anyways, so this week I'm taking the opportunity to catch up in my blogging, get some more sketches done for a hopefully higher mark in drawing during my midterms at the end of the break.

So without further to do, I give you an update on my current favorite class: CERAMICS

One of our first assignments was to work with hard slabs, that we call them. Which is using fresh new clay all rolled out and flat and left out to dry a little bit, making it easier to keep its shape. So the assignment was to build a shoe. I was inspired by the idea of 'there was an old lady who lived in a shoe', so I created this little piece. I want to make another one.. but we'll see how my time goes.

Another project was to make two zoomorphic and/or animorphic vessels, one a replica of an ancient artifact vessel, and another one all our own, inspired from our lives, and something that kinda represents ourselves and something we care about.
So for my zoomorphic replica vessel...

Is what the original piece looks like, and my piece...

I haven't yet painted or fired the piece when this picture was taken, but when I come back to school on Monday, we're going to be sawdust firing them, and I will post more pictures when it happens!

The second piece is still technically a vessel, because it's a paintbrush holder, and I am very excited about it. I wanted to create a paintbrush holder for a while, and it just worked out that in this assignment I could do that!

It's a hedgehog. Without the spindlies, because those are created by the paintbrushes (genius!). And I love hedgehogs, so it's a win-win-win. Again, I'll post pictures after I've painted and fired it. But I'm excited. Only downside is one of his legs came off :( But we can glue it back on after it's fired. War wounds. I still love him. He holds a special place in my heart :)
